The Brighton Centre was opened in 1977 as Brutalist architecture was very quickly going out of fashion. There is no question or surprise that this is a controversial building in a city full of Regency architecture. But it's a part of the seafront and I have been to many events and gigs there over the years. Did you know, Bing Crosby's final performance was at the Brighton Centre on 10 October 1977 and The Jacksons and Bob Marley played at this venue in the following couple of years? Built by Russel Diplock and Associates, who also designed the old Churchill Square and Kingswest Centre.
