The Fagus Factory in Alfeld was designed by Walter Gropius, who later founded the Bauhaus. Designed in 1910 and notable for the innovative use of vast glass panels, it is considered to be the earliest modernist architecture of the 20th Century. The factory establishes several major fundamental aspects of modern functionalist architecture of the 20th century.
